Abstract
Objectives :This study was to evaluate the surface roughness change produced by physical or chemical materials for dental plaque removal on RBM(resorbable blasting media) treated implant surface.

Materials and Methods :The RBM treated implant discs were used after formation of artificial plaque with Streptococcus mutans. This study was divided into one control, three physical and three chemical methods used to remove dental plaque. The physical methods applied on RBM implant were prophyflex, professional mechanical tooth cleaning and interdental brush also the chemical methods applied on RBM implant were 0.1% chlorhexidine, citric acid and HCL tetracycline. Each disc was sonically cleaned, air dried, and measured by profilemeter and scanning electronic microscope(SEM).

Results :There were no significant differences between control(1.671¡¾0.12)and each groups(physical: 1.614¡¾0.12, chemical: 1.624¡¾0.09) on the surface roughness values(Ra:§) after each oral hygiene methods treatment(p>0.05). Analysis of SEM showed that after each oral hygiene methods treatment, all groups looked like original RBM implant surface that hydroxyapatite particles was adhered to surface of RBM implant as irregular shape and size.

Conclusion :The RBM implant surface was not affected by six methods used in this study. These methods will be able to remove safely the plaque or calculus on RBM implant.
